<P><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><FONT color=#000000><FONT face=新細明體>姓氏的起源已有相當悠久的歷史，歷代也有不少學者從事於姓氏的調查研究與統計分類，例如唐朝林寶的《元和姓纂》，宋朝鄭樵的《通志‧氏族略》，鄧名世的《古今姓氏書辨證》，明朝凌迪知的《萬姓通譜》，及清朝張澍的《姓氏尋源》，都算是這方面的代表著作。自從將姓氏資料作為幼童啟蒙教材之後，姓氏常識就很自然地深植於一般百姓的心目中，其實這都是刊印於宋初《百家姓》一書的功勞。《百家姓》是宋朝初年浙江錢唐<SPAN lang=EN-US>(</SPAN>杭州<SPAN lang=EN-US>)</SPAN>一位不知姓名的老儒所作，它流通於世已有一千多年之歷史，而後人陸續有《增廣百家姓》、《續百家姓》、《百家姓續編》、《御制百家姓》之類的更新版本出現，甚至後來又有《百家姓考略》、《台灣百家姓考》等各種考訂專書問世。《百家姓》收錄姓氏約有<SPAN lang=EN-US>508</SPAN>個，它是按照「趙錢孫李、周吳鄭王」之順序排列的。據說，趙宋王朝初建時，江南卻還有錢氏據守吳越之地，其王為錢俶及王妃孫氏，加上南唐國主姓李，所以趙、錢、孫、李四姓，當然就優先上榜，以示尊敬。隨後的周、吳、鄭、王，馮、陳、褚、衛……等各個姓氏，雖有四字一句、隨口配韻之安排，但大致還是依國之大族，或一般習知與常見的姓氏排序的。<SPAN lang=EN-US><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></FONT></SPAN></P>
